The opportunity
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Global Tax Manager (m/w/d), based in our office in Barcelona, who wants to contribute to the growth and success of our Company.
As our Global Tax Manager, you will be the definitive authority on global tax for the Group. Reporting to the CFO and working closely with our Private Equity stakeholders and Tax advisors, you will bridge the gap between high-level tax planning and operational execution. You will be responsible for navigating the complexities of European travel VAT (Art. 74-ter / TOMS) while structuring our expansion into new markets.
Success in the first 12 months
- Months 0-3: Complete a full audit of current indirect tax processes; establish a "Day 1" working relationship with Private Equity partners, external advisors and Company internal stakeholders.
- Months 3-6: Along with our Fiscal Advisors, successfully implement the tax logic for the new Group Holding/OpCo structure and finalize the global Transfer Pricing policy.
- Months 6-12: Automate at least 80% of VAT compliance workflows in partnership with Product/Engineering and provide the tax "Go-to-Market" blueprint for expansion into nonEMEA regions (APAC/AMER).
Your role in BizAway
- Develop and implement global indirect tax strategies for multiple business lines (hotel, flights, rail) and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
- Own end-to-end indirect tax compliance for all Group entities, with a mastery of the Tour Operators' Margin Scheme (TOMS), including margin calculations, invoicing accuracy, and maintenance of audit-ready documentation.
- Analyze VAT/GST legislation across multiple jurisdictions, outlining implications for new business and new operational initiatives, keeping the business ahead of "Digital Services Tax" and marketplace facilitator rules.
- Design and implement indirect tax processes and controls across the business, driving continual improvement.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to automate VAT compliance and internal pricing models, ensuring our financial systems evolve alongside global travel tax laws.
- Managing the tax impacts and relation between the Holding Company and the Operational structure, ensuring tax-efficient intercompany recharges and dividend flows.
- Leading projects regarding Permanent Establishment (PE) analysis, foreign entity creation, and location strategies.
- Overseeing the Group’s Transfer Pricing policy, ensuring documentation is robust and aligned with OECD standards across all jurisdictions.
- Managing CIT returns with third-party advisors and support the finance team in monthly/annual close activities.
- Business partner of our sales and Customer Success team to ensure the proper tax/fiscal support to our clients and prospects
- Review business contracts to determine operating models and draft clauses that mitigate risk while supporting the commercial negotiation process.
- Lead indirect and direct tax audits, maintaining proactive and professional relationships with local tax authorities and external Tier-1 advisors.
- 8–10+ years of dedicated experience in VAT/GST, preferably starting in a "Big 4" tax firm, a significant portion of this must be in-house experience within a multinational corporation, ideally in the Travel or E-commerce sector.
- Deep knowledge of the travel industry’s tax complexities is mandatory. You should possess an existing industry network to stay informed on niche policy shifts.
- Proven track record of managing tax nexus and compliance across EMEA (90% of current business) and emerging experience in APAC or AMER to support our global expansion.
- Degree in Tax, Law, or Finance. A professional qualification (e.g., Commercialista/Revisore Legale in Italy, or international equivalents like CTA/CPA) is highly preferred.
- Professional proficiency in English is mandatory. Italian and Spanish are highly valued given our headquarters and CFO location.
- Ability to distill complex technical tax issues into simple, commercial concepts for non-tax business partners.
- Hands-on and autonomous, managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to influence stakeholders to help achieve your goals.
- An empathetic, inclusive and curious attitude.
